FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do I have to own my own skates and protective gear?
If you do not own your own equipment, inline skates and protective gear are available at no additional cost. Please indicate the equipment you need to borrow and your shoe size, if applicable, when you register.
Do I need to pre-register for the FREE Learn to Skate Clinic?
Yes, so that we can ensure that we have enough instructors available to teach all of our inline skating lessons, we ask that you register online in advance.
If it looks like it’s going to rain, how do I know if my lesson has been canceled?
Luckily, most of our lessons are held in a covered location. If we unexpectedly have to cancel a lesson, we always try to do so at least 90-minutes before the lesson start time. We will send a message to all registered students via email and/or text message if a lesson is cancelled.
I am really interested in taking a Group Lesson but my schedule doesn’t allow me to attend a scheduled program. Can you help?
Absolutely, we can help! If you are unable to attend our regularly scheduled Group Lessons, request a private lesson. We do our best to schedule private lessons at a location and time convenient for you and your instructor.
Do I have to take Group Lessons in consecutive order?
Our Group Lesson Sessions follow a built-in well designed progression and we recommend that you take the lessons in progression order. We understand that your schedule may not mesh with our Group Lesson Calendar especially during prime summer vacation time. With that in mind, our Group Lesson Progressions have been developed to be as flexible as possible and our instructors are highly trained to ensure that all participants are challenged and can answer your scheduling questions.
I really want to participate in the Skater’s Quest Fitness Inline Training (FIT) Program but know that I’ll miss some training sessions. Should I still register?
Definitely! While we recommend that you attend as many practice sessions as possible, we will provide you with a detailed training plan so that you can maintain your training on your own and still exceed your personal goal(s)!
How can I maximize my lesson benefits?
Here are a few tips for getting the most from your lessons with Skaters Quest:
Fuel and Lubrication — The body and mind need fuel to operate effectively especially when learning. Eat something healthy before your lesson. Water helps lubricate joints and connective tissue so hydrate before, during and after each lesson.
Time — Arrive early to gear up, warm up and practice skills from the previous lesson since we’ll be building upon those in this lesson.
Watch — The instructor will demonstrate each new skill. Watch closely since this is the goal at which all exercises are aimed. Also watch fellow students execute the drills so you can emulate the great things they do as well as recognize ineffective movement patterns and remove them from your skating.
Participate — Give your best effort to each exercise no matter how simple or complex it seems. We use progressions that build to the goal so each exercise has an important purpose.
Ask — If you have a question chances are someone else has the same question. Everyone learns when you ask questions and it also deepens your understanding.
Review — Each Certified Instructor will review the 3 key steps used to build skills. If it’s unclear ask for clarification. If you have difficulty remembering them, take a moment to write them down after the lesson and use the notes as you practice.
Practice — Especially helpful if done within 24 hours of the lesson as it’s easier to remember the exercises and movement patterns. Several short practice sessions during the week will be more helpful than one long session.
Return — We like to see your progress and we’ll build on each lesson as we add new more advanced skills. So come back and see us.
Feedback –Give us feedback either in person or via email so we know what we can improve and what was helpful.
